At the end of the day scouting for night time places to photograph it is nice to see a scene like this developing. Sometimes the scene just has too much dynamic range to try to capture and other times it is possible with HDR or other techniques. This is just one exposure and it was hard to get all the range needed to capture the image I was looking at. so I took a quick snapshot and just enjoyed watching the storm develop. We were on a trip to photograph the milky way and neither of us had any lens long enough to capture what we wanted too. Traveling light sometimes means you don't get all the images you want, but that is ok. Sometimes it is nice just to watch the scene develop as it was in this case even though I captured the image with an wider focal length lens than I wanted too. Enjoy your travels the best you can. -Mark

Kevin and I were staying in West Yellowstone and driving into the park each morning. This drive in seems has the best chances for wildlife photos and viewing from our experience from previous trips. It is always nice to see animals in this area, but sometimes they can be in the shadows making it more difficult to photograph. This morning we saw this guy in nice light and he was not afraid to walk through the viewing area where we were parked. I was excited he stood there and posed so nice for us. As long as you keep your distance from animals, you will have a much better chance of getting them in a scene like this. Of course some tourist has to ruin it for everyone as they try to get to close. It is a problem in national parks with people not wanting to follow the rules or be aware of others in the area photographing. Try to be a good human!

I went for this Milky Way edit to be more monotone rather than the usual saturated colors that our camera sensors see. I think this is more like my view when I am out taking photos of the Milky Way or just stargazing. Taken on a trip in 2023 to Utah around the Hanksville area. This area is known as Factory Butte and there are so many areas to explore and photograph here. Kevin and I have been back here many times and each time we come back with new and different images from the area. Fun place to explore.

Got up early on Ground Hog Day to see if I could see my own shadow. Well as luck would have it I did! Sometimes it is fun doing stuff like this.

Traveling we all come across the question of which fork in the road we take. This time I took the fork in the road.
