Nature’s Best Magazine consistently publishes some of the best nature photography around. If you are not familiar with the magazine, I strongly recommend that you pick up an issue and look over the images.

The image of the sand dune from Colorado appeared in the fall 2006 awards issue of Nature's Best Magazine. It was also part of the Nature's Best Magazine photography exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History (Nov 2006 through March 2007)

Nature’s Best also has photo contests that draw some of the best photography available, and the awards issues are some of their best sellers. I belong to an organization called the Nature and Wildlife Photographers of Long Island (NWPLI) which includes some incredibly talented photographers among its members. NWPLI received a “Highly Honored” award in the camera club category in the Fall 2005 issue of Nature’s Best and they were a winner in the backyard photography category in the spring of 2006. In the fall of 2006, NWPLI took the top prize in the camera club category.

The image of the red grapes from Long Island appeared in the Spring 2006 issue of Nature's Best.

Although 20 images from various NWPLI members were submitted for each contest, Nature’s Best Magazine selects only a few for publication. I have been very fortunate that the magazine has published one of my images in each of these awards issues. The images that appeared in Nature’s Best Magazine are shown on this page. In addition, I have included a few images from the Nature’s Best Magazine photography exhibit from the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History (I was also lucky to have one of my images exhibited in the Smithsonian as a result of the Fall 2006 award).

The image of the autumn dusting of snow in Denali appeared in the Fall 2005 issue of Nature's Best.

The exhibit gets pretty crowded at times.

The overall exhibit was very impressive, and the printing quality was exceptional.

Several of my images were included in the NWPLI submissions (20 images from NWPLI were enter for each contest), and as I have mentioned, I have been fortunate to have one of my images published in each of the corresponding awards issues. However, the strength of the overall NWPLI submission was the reason for this success. As I was looking at the impressive display at the Smithsonian exhibit, I realized that they only tell part of the story. The submission included amazing images from photographers like Dan Neri, Len Maltese, Eddie Coppa and Larry Palumbo. It is very unfortunate that their images were not on display as well. You really have to see all 20 images in the submission to appreciate why NWPLI won top honors.
