These are examples of
photographs of hummingbirds taken in Madera Canyon near Tucson,
Arizona. Around April of each year, several species of hummingbirds
pass through this area. This is an ideal time to photograph these
birds.

 |
| Hummingbirds move so fast that they
must be photographed using high-speed flash in order to freeze the
action. Since it is impossible to photograph them using autofocus,
you must set the camera focus manually, and set the flash to provide
enough light to photograph with an aperture around F22. This will
increase your depth of field, which will increase your chances of
getting a sharp photo as the birds visit your flowers, or hummingbird
feeders. |

 |
| You need enough flashes to light the bird and background
evenly. It is essential to have enough battery power to allow for
quick recycling of the flash since you will often need to fire off
several frames in a few seconds.
