The following is a summary of how to use the Batch Re-Name feature in the file
browser in Photoshop CS.
Using the Batch Rename Feature in the Photoshop Browser
The Batch Rename feature will allow you to rename several files all
at once. For example: If you just shot several photos of a birthday
party using a digital camera, you may want to name them all Tom’s_party01,
Tom’s Party02, etc.
1) Use the Adobe File browser to view all the images in a file or folder,
or even a flash card or digital camera memory stick.
2) While you are viewing them, select the files you wish to rename.
(You select a file by clicking on it. To select more than one file,
click on the first file and then click on the last one you wish to select
while also holding down the shift key.)
3) Once the files are selected, go to Automate at the top of the File
Browser headings.
4) Select Batch Rename from the dropdown menu.
5) Under File Naming, type the name that will be used in the top left
slot (for example: Tom’s_party
6) Then select an additional identifier for the files in the drop down
menu in the top right election area. For example: select “2 Digit
Serial Number” if you want the files to be numbered 01, 02, 03,
etc.
7) Then in the middle left selection area, select “Extension”
and check the Mac OS and Unix boxes next to compatibility so the files
can be opened on other types of computers.
8) Then click ok and the selected files are all renamed.
Note: You can start at a different number by selecting a different
starting serial number. For example: If you named the 50 files on your
first card Tom’s_party01 through Tom’s_party50, you may
want to start naming the files on the next card Tom’s_party51.
