Using an Action to Align Text

The following is a summary of how to write an Action that will place text in a specific place on an image.

Using an Action to Place Text in a Specific Location

1) Figure out where you would like the text first, then pull up horizontal & vertical grid lines that will intersect at the center of the text. Note the locations of the grid lines as a percentage of placement across the frames. For example, if the horizontal grid line is close to the bottom of the image, it may be 90% from the top. If the vertical grid line is dead center, it would be 50% from the left.

2) Once you have the location, you ca start to record the action.

3) While recording, bring up a vertical grid line and specify the desired location (e.g., 50%)

4) Bring up a horizontal grid line and specify its location (e.g., 90%).

5) Type the text anywhere on the image and then hit Control T (Transform). A bounding box will appear around the text and there will be a little circle at the center. Use the move tool to position the circle of the text bounding box at the intersection of the two lines.

6) Stop recording the action.

7) When applied, the action will apply the text in the same spot.
